What is your housing price range?
If we end up deciding on the Nashville area, our price range would be preferably under $350,000.We would love to find a single story house that is about 2,000 square ft with a quarter acre (roughly 10,000 square ft) or larger yard in a neighborhood like Cottonwood.A 3500 square ft 2 story house on a small lot is something we do not want...

There are options that fit that description in neighborhoods like Maplewood, which is in walking distance of the brand-new Sprouts store, Fieldstone Farms, Royal Oaks, etc. But they are not new. Some have been remodeled.

Land is expensive here, so builders tend to build as much house as they can to get a return on their investment.

Thanks for the info...We would be ok with not new if it meant having everything else we want like single story, right around 2000 square ft,with a decent sized yard, great schools, really safe area.

The local MLS website is Realtracs.com.

You can search there, although for some reason they still don't allow you to search by number of stories.

Just did an extensive search and found a number of great homes that would fit what we are looking for...

The Nashville metro crime rate is pretty high. What are the accurate numbers for the crime rate in Williamson County? How does the crime rate in the Brentwood/Franklin area compare to say the Cary/Apex area in Wake County in North Carolina? At this point we are deciding between staying in Dallas or the Nashville/Raleigh/Charlotte areas. My husband had job transfer offers to all 3 areas...

Williamson County is very safe. The Brentwood police send out a monthly crime report through a neighborhood website. Last month's crime report included 4-5 break-ins and some things stolen from (mostly unlocked) cars. That seems to be the biggest crime wave here, people having things stolen from unlocked cars.

Definitely consider the unincorporated area north of Franklin (obviously you don't pay the Franklin taxes), but you're even closer to town (and Trader Joes , of course).
