Relocating to Nashville for a job and am interested in finding a nice, safe area to live. Can anyone recommend an apartment near the zoo area?

The zoo area is called Grassmere. There are several good places near there. The better ones are west of the zoo. To the east is a large immigrant population and the businesses, including shops and restaurants are geared for them. (btw, we have a very diverse immigrant population and exploring those restaurants and shops can be fun.)
To the NW of the zoo is Berry Hill, an old neighborhood, mostly houses. The apartments are mostly to the south. I would be careful of some of the bigger developments throughout Nashville, they are notorious for making promises they have no intention of keeping. For the large complexes, checkout Apartment.com before signing anything. There are lots of houses and townhomes for rent, try Craig's List and Zillow for them.
