I'm not sure if the Tennessean is being coy or if they just don't know yet...but a yet-to-be-named carrier is set to announce 5 yet-to-be-disclosed routes to BNA on Wednesday.

Nashville International Airport to add new airline with 5 new destinations

I'll venture a wild guess that it is Spirit or Allegiant.

Yet more evidence of Nashville's rapid Growth and progress even within the Airport!!! I have to be honest, I have never been more impressed by one Cities growth rate and progression than Nashville's.. Even though I don't live there yet, I'm enjoying seeing where it has come from and where it is going and plan to move there if not back to the Delaware/Philly area... I'm a true Fan of the city.. Great news for BNA

I would not call that anything be thrilled about. Do people actually fly that airline? All I’ve heard are horror stories.

I had to look these up...Richmond, Destin/Ft Walton, Punta Gorda, Myrtle Beach, and Savannah.

While I'm not thrilled with Allegiant (though I've never had any personal experience with them), I do like that there are more options to beach destinations...especially Destin. I don't think it's enough to make them a major player in this market or anything, but it certainly gives flyers more options and that's a good thing.

Add me to your list of people who dislike Allegiant. I would've much preferred Spirit over Allegiant. Oh well.
But there are plenty of people out there who like Allegiant, so I suppose for them this is good news.

I've never flown them, but I have friends who use them. They target budget minded leisure travelers, which is a huge market. I have spoken with some people who are currently driving to Knoxville to take Allegiant on vacation, so we even have leakage out of Nashville in some instances.

Over time they will increase frequencies, and I could also see them adding Nashville as a destination (I would argue that Richmond is targeting traffic to Nashville, in general). Well-timed weekend flights would likely go over well for people wanting to come to Nashville for bachelorette parties or to go to concerts/Lower Broad. If that were to happen, then that is the bigger news. 5-10 A320s landing on early Friday afternoon filled with weekend travelers would be a major boon to the hospitality industry.

Southwest is going to start nonstop service between Nashville and Oklahoma City. This will make 39 nonstop destinations on Southwest out of Nashville.
