Hello. My family and I will be moving from Guam to Nashville for my job in southern Nashville (near the zoo) next summer. We have two boys that will be in high school and middle school. Where is a good area to settle down in where the schools are good and homes are affordable? We are looking at 3-4bed/2+bath homes for 280k or less. Thinking Spring Hill, but unsure how that commute would be as well. Thank you.

Check out realtracs.com for real estate in this area. You might be able to get a little closer - Thompson Station or even Franklin. Bigger house in Spring Hill. Better commute closer in. Depends on your priorities.

Sping Hill would be an awful drive. I'd look for something closer with an easier commute.

I would not recommend purchasing a home when moving halfway across the world. Find a home to rent in Mt Juliet.

A Spring Hill commute to the zoo would be absolutely awful.

Rent in Mt. Juliet isn't cheap, but it would be better driving and a good school system.

A one bedroom/ one bath apartment in Mt. Juliet starts at about $1,000-$1,200 though. A home may run about $1,700 to meet your above criteria. Cheaper options would be Hermitage-Donelson or Bellevue, but the school system is not as great.

Welcome to the forum.... I lived on Guam twice for 15 months, and another time for 3 years. Really enjoyed my time there. I live in north Murfreesboro, south on I-24 from Nashville. Depending your work hours, this could be a possibility for you. If you have any Murfreesboro specific questions, just DM me, and I will do my best to answer, or get you the answers you need.

I would recommend the nolensville area or la vergne/smyrna. Nolensville would be my top pick if you're commuting to the zoo. It's a pretty straight shot even though you'd have to deal with traffic on nolensville.

Edit: I would also say, commuting from Spring hill probably would be pretty miserable. It wouldn't be bad if you were getting off in brentwood, but navigating traffic from 65 to the zoo probably wouldn't be ideal (unless you left really early).

Maybe start with Nolensville & Harding location an an apartment nearby. Having the old Kmart converted into Habitat for Humanity site should help. For schools try the Franklin Road Academy nearby.

There's a chance you could find something close to that price range in Crieve Hall. Great schools and great location. If you're budget was closer to $300-350, you might be able to find an older unrenovated home in that area. That might not be ideal for your situation, but again the location is good.

Thanks for the advice. I've heard 65 is the lesser of two evils when compared to 24. Is that not correct? That is why we were leaning towards Spring Hill. One of the guys I will be working with says that Spring Hill is only about a 30 min drive, which Im ok with. Plus the homes are more in my price range for the size we are looking for. Dont get me wrong, Id much rather live in some of those other areas, but not when the homes start in the 350+ range.
