I keep my ear to the ground regarding my kids' schools, and as far as I can tell there is no heroin problem at their schools. I should mention that I live in the Chattanooga area.

Going back to my day in private school in the '80s, there were a handful of kids who did heroin, but that was because it was so expensive at the time. They came from very wealthy families. I can think of four kids right off the top, and two of them died before they reached the age of 40. I know of one who has reformed and is doing very well. The other, I don't know. But I'm sure times have changed, and there are lots of kids tempted by heroin as the price has come down a lot. Pot is everywhere.

Fortunately I have not heard of heroin being used here. Weed is the main thing.

Brentwood is a pretty nice town and I would look at Franklin as well. For 800k you can get a pretty big house in Brentwood, Brentwood school district is fairly good even thou TN public schools are pathetic compared to other US States. I have family in Belle Meade and the homes are out of reach for you at 800k, Brentwood is one of the nicest places to live in Nashville other than Belle Meade. Brentwood population has exploded and they have a lot of transplants from NYC, Chicago and LA. I have met transplants from pretty much every US State so you should not have a hard time fitting in. Brentwood has a lot of transplant families and most everyone is pretty welcoming in Brentwood although the population is getting too high for my likening hopefully it does not become like Plano TX a suburb of 200k someday.

Thank you. Do you know how Frabklin compares in terms of schools and safety?

Franklin is a safe city. It's just bigger than Brentwood and set up differently. I lived in Franklin before I moved to Brentwood. The quality of the various schools there overall is good; there are just a lot of them, and you have to do research on each school to understand the makeup.

Brentwood is more of a bedroom community, and Franklin, as the county seat, has the original historic town square plus more commercial areas.

Cool Springs, which overlaps both city limits but is mostly in Franklin, is not a city but a commercial area that was pastureland until they built the mall in 1991. Then things EXPLODED over the next 25 years.

Both areas are car-centric suburbs that can get pretty congested at various times.
Franklin has more economic diversity than Brentwood, and it has more subdivisions that have smaller lots. Brentwood looks more green because its building density is lower.

Actually, Franklin and Brentwood are similar suburbs in terms of schools and safety. Franklin has 2 school districts - Franklin Special and Williamson County, depending upon your location. For some reason, Franklin's property taxes seem higher than Brentwood's. Brentwood homes tend to have bigger lots because there used to be a one house per acre rule. It has since been amended for new construction to include greenspace within the neighborhood counting toward the one house per acre rule.

Pay close attention in Brentwood as it has only one zip code for both the Davidson and Williamson County parts. Davidson County is zoned for Metro Nashville schools. When we were house hunting, I tended to rely on the Williamson County Schools' website (Williamson County Schools – RIGOR | RELEVANCE | RELATIONSHIPS | RELENTLESSNESS) bus and school zone query to verify what the realtor listed in Realtracs.com. Often what the realtor listed as the schools in Realtracs was incorrect.

We are transplants and have many Nashville friends from all over the U.S. As long as you are open to adopting a Southern lifestyle with all of its charm, you will fit in just fine.

It's because Franklin offers some services Brentwood doesn't, primarily trash pick-up.

Thank you for all of that ! I'm definitely willing and wanting to embrace the southern lifestyle. If a house has Brentwood High listed as it's school , that wouldn't be Davidson correct ?
