I've been on this board for over a year and after considering 3 different states and visiting different towns, I thought I settled on Murfreesboro.

I am looking for a small-medium size town within 1 hr of the airport. I would like a newer (under 10 yrs old) 3-4 bedroom home on around 5 acres in 250K-350K range. The other thing I really wanted was a basement (used to live close to Knoxville - basements everywhere). I love the rolling hills. Don't care much about night life or entertainment (as long as there are some restaurants and basic shopping).

I visited Murf'boro 3 times now and liked it, except for it's flat, and most of the homes in the SW area (where I liked it the most) were either older with acreage or newer on stamp size lots.

I was wondering if Lebanon or Mt. Juliet would be a better choice to find the rural property (with a basement )?

Also, the schools are important to me as I have two kids in elementary school.

Any help would be appreciated. I am going to plan another trip in a week or two and would like suggestions on where to look.

Thanks

Hey jaskat,

Mount Juliet and Lebanon will definitely be a good choice. Schools in Mt. Juliet are great, Lebanon has good schools also just a little more Rural. I know the High School in Mount Juliet is about to go to 5A which is a big school. Basements are doable but not as popular here as Knoxville area. You can find them and I would say in Mount Juliet and Lebanon will be easier than Murfreesboro for sure because there are some rolling hills over there.

It sounds like you might have ruled out M'boro already, and based on your needs that might be beneficial. Basements are fairly difficult to find here and finding that kind of land for that price might be tough as well.

Lebanon is all rock..Mt Juliet is also! I saw more houses onslab there than anywhere else..Murfreesboro is clay ..the houses smelled very musty in Cherokee Hills in Lebanon ..Lebanon holds a lot of water is what I am saying...drive thru Fair Oaks golf area and see all the huge rocks and boulders in front of the houses...Mt Juliet has very little inventory compared to Murfreesboro...but it is nice...it is more expensive...traffic is about the same both places...Lebanon is the rodny dangerfield of the three..Murfreesboro is getting more upscale and out of state money is coming here as is mt Juliet..we have the Ave Mall they have Providence. They blast for basements here - pricey....personally I hate em...rather have the bonus room upstairs - safer choice! good luck
