I am considering a move to the area as you can see in my other thread. I initially focused on Williamson County surrounding Franklin. What other areas should I consider which have a lot of new housing stock with good schools and nearby conveniences like CostCo, Grocery, restaurants and the top medical facilities like Vanderbilt? While as retirees we do not consume schools, I consider good schools to be a way to protect ones investment in a home, so this characteristic matters to me as well. Likewise proximity to good jobs protects suburban home values as well, which lead me to Franklin. Commute and job location are not an issues as i am full time retired as is my wife. We would like a 4000 sf home and both are home bodies more than most as my wife deals with chronic auto immune issues.

We are not urban folks we like the suburbs with great access to the necessities of life and medical. What other options should we consider?

You might take a look at Murfreesboro in Rutherford County. It will be cheaper than Williamson County with plenty of new housing stock. It is larger than Franklin and has good schools as well.

I'd also look in Mt. Juliet and Hendersonville. While neither are especially close to Costco's 2 locations in Nashville (West Nashville & Brentwood) they check off lots of your other requirements.

Thanks will do some remove research on these suggestions. I am planning to come over for 10 days or so on the ground research in the next month or so. No harm seeing things in winter time rather than in better seasons. Also having maybe two weekend so I can see what the housing looks like inside without engaging a realtor until I nail down an area myself. I may go to Knoxville a couple of days as well since I like a lot of the aspects I see there but worry some about size and the housing stock does not look near as new as I see for Franklin. Our current home was built in 1999. I would like something newer to avoid home repairs issues which as I age are less fun!. Also I hear Knoxville described as gritty. One things we liked about NW Arkansas was the new look every where as that area hs doubled in size in the last 20 years so a lot of things are very new in that area but it is small to me.

This past fall my wife was in the hospital twice for almost a week. She had two episodes of C Diff. Our specialists here at located near the two large hospitals near DT Dallas a good 30 minutes from my home. But good satellite hospitals are within 5 minutes and the Dr DT can access her records since it is the same Baylor System. Ideally Id like that set up where I go if not closer to the main hospitals where the top flight Drs might office.

Suburbs: Hendersonville, Mt. Juliet, Old Hickory (WilCo side), north part of Murfreesboro, Brentwood, BelleMeade, Station Camp, Spring Hill, Gladeville(Mt. Juliet side), Pleasant View, Thompsons Station, and Fairview, Goodlettsville (Sumner side).

These are the places I would look in the suburbs. Price ranges will vary.

If access to Vanderbilt is needed you could look as close as Bellevue or look a little further out Hwy 100 at the west edge of Davidson county. AS you get 15 miles away from downtown Nashville/Davidson has a more suburban look & feel. You do get Nashville police, fire, library, community center in a park, MTA bus service (1/2 price for seniors). Property taxes are lower than the central city.

The Sam's club here is closing but Costco seems to be doing OK & they also sell cheaper gas.

I second DonCorleone with Mt. Juliet and Hendersonville. I think the latter has better schools, the former will see greater growth over the next 20 years due to its proximity to BNA and the southern parts of Davidson County.

I agree but if someone is zoned for Mt. Juliet High I'm not sure there's a lot of difference

Mt Juliet High outperformed Hendersonville High in ACT scores last year. I would agree that Mt. Juliet schools are slightly better now. Hendersonville has great schools too and are certainly towards the top.
