I'm a finalist for a position at a state government job located within a couple hundreds yards from the Capitol building. I should know something within the next week. I've passed by there a few times, but have no idea what the traffic and commuting is like on a daily basis. I'm guessing it's fairly hellish if you're coming from the suburbs.

If the offers come in where I think it will, I should be able to do $1,000-$1,200 for a 1BR. I'm a suburban guy, but don't want an awful commute.

Any suggestions?

Traffic is fairly hellish downtown too.

How much of a commute are you willing to do?

I'd like to keep it at thirty minutes or less. No more than an hour.

In general, would it be better to try to like drive to a bus stop, then ride in? It looks like the parking is on a surface lot.

Yes - you'd be parking in one of the lots around bicentennial mall or the ballpark most likely.

https://www.apartments.com/nashville...no_t4zIxjsju2B might be at your top end and a very easy commute, especially if they offer a free month. Or otherwise, West Nash and Bellevue would be your easiest commute.

Yeah I agree that Bellevue is probably the easiest suburban commute into downtown. It's not gonna be a breeze but I think from the west is better than any other direction.

If you don't mind a little bit of a walk, you could live east and take the train in to downtown. It's several blocks from the downtown train station to the capitol area, but it's certainly doable. I know of at least one person who lives in Mt Juliet and works by the capitol and takes the train.

Bellevue is probably a good starting point. I'd also consider Madison which isn't terrible commute-wise and would be likely to have something in your price range. I think that area is primed to grow as East Nashville and Germantown are becoming too expensive for many young professionals. Madison can be hit and miss in some areas...nothing too dangerous generally speaking...but there are some rough patches. By and large, however, it's worth checking out.

edit: Donelson and Hermitage would also be worth a look and fall within your commute range (and have access to the commuter rail as JMT mentioned)

The West side of Madison would be a good option. If you live within walking distance of Gallatin Road, you could take the bus to work.

In Bellevue near the Post Office & behind the Hampton Inn there are 2 MTA/We Go Park & Ride lots. Going to downtown may be best to use the express bus from there that uses I-40. The normal #5 route has more options but may take longer due to all the stops.

Is driving to this area basically undoable? I haven't seen anyone suggest a traditional drive, but I am not familiar with the area.
