And I should add that yes, safety is important as I wont know my way around or what are the sketchy areas...but I have lived in unsafe areas and downright HOOD areas before so I guess I'm not so worried about this. I've lived in the inner city before and went to college there so I know how to mind my own business.

I am a bit disappointed though because I'm in San Diego paying $1525 for a 1 bedroom 3 blocks from the beach in a hippie town. I was hoping I could save money on rent. Good I know this now because I dont think I will take a salary much less than what I'm making now!

What about East Nashville?

And when it comes to securing a ln apartment...should I just make the move and plan to stay in a hotel for a week or so to make sure I can see the apartments in person? I feel it may be too complicated and risky to arrange for an apartment across the country...
I used to live in San Diego so part of me kinda wants to know how you're able to find that place at that price but I digress. Nashville isn't as cheap as people think. But yes I think it would bea good idea to get a hotel first then check everything out once you're here.

I live in East Nashville, it all depends on what area you're in.

I highly recommend the Inglewood area. (37216)

Original asking rent was $1600. I'm in OB in the warzone. 1 parking spot included. The place is clean and super bright but nothing to write home about and the bums basically camp out right outside my window. Pretty sure I've seen them smoke crack.

I am in sales so...everything is negotiable. Apparently I'm the only one in the complex who negotiated. So I'm paying $75 less than everyone else here. I got a good deal considering I could live 20 mins inland and only save 100 bucks a month. Not worth it.

I am looking forward to leaving!

Ok great, thank you!! San Diego had a map of neighborhoods within the county and their corresponding nicknames/stereotypes. I kinda feel like all cities should have that LOL super helpful to figure out which area would speak to me.

I want art and green smoothies and murals and boutique shops. Any neighborhoods have those things that I should check out?

Oh, Nashville has one of those. It's pretty accurate:

All the neighborhoods mentioned so far have those. As we mentioned, though, your definition of "safety" may vary.

That's an old map. No cat killing in East Nashville. We rescue them.

Not it's not - it's 6 years old.

OP - you can get exactly what you want. Just not at $1,000/month.

It's been generally accurate for the almost 30 years I've lived here. I can see MAYBE 3 things you could change after 6 years, but overall not THAT much is different.
