As some of you may recall I am considering a move from Plano Texas Wife's health issues have delayed out plans some but they are still alive.

I am curious to hear from anyone who has lived in Williamson County, where we will move to if we make this change, and has lived in the North Dallas area suburbs such as Plano or Frisco etc. Where I am in west Plano is very safe, Plano has been recognized as one of the safest US small cities over the 8 years we have lived here. An additional factor in my view is that the surrounding cities are also very safe. Allen, Frisco, Carrolton and Far North Dallas areas. With this buffer we are miles from any unsafe areas. I would estimate 5 to 10 miles from any crime trouble spot.

Moving to Williamson I want to be in Brentwood if we can find a place in our price range of $600k to $1000k. Our needs are to be close to restaurants and other regular shopping such as grocery stores. We have these within a 2 mile radius where we are now. We also need easy access to good Dr and Hospitals. I have ruled out Knoxville and other Tn options to be close to Vanderbilt. We need a top Internist and a top RA specialist for her ongoing conditions. We have that now 12 and 19 miles from us.

We are home bodies as I am retired going on 12 years now and my wife's health issues keep her home or going to Dr's or Physical therapy facilities including a water therapy set up 2 miles from our home now.

I have visited and find the cool springs area most similar to what I find now shopping wise. ( I have 3 costco's and 3 sams clubs and a whole foods within 6 miles of my home now) One of each is plenty with a walmart neighborhood market within 1 quarter of a mile for common needs.

The other location of interest to me seems less populated or has fewer homes in my price range, it is far NW Williamson County. My interest here is in being closer to Vanderbilt.

I am reading the local paper and see what makes the news but putting it all into safety perspective is hard especially with Tn having a different crime count method of reporting.

Thanks in Advance.

You would be fine in that location John. I wouldn't go much further South than that.

Good luck.

Thanks. My wife is a big fan of Property Brothers on HGTV and they are doing their show in Nashville these days. My wife saw an episode in Brentwood that has her understanding my love for the areas. We plan to visit after the Holidays for her first trip to evaluate it as a place to live.

She visited Lewisburg with me a few times when my grandparents were living there. So she knows the area some waht

We had some friends on Property Brother recently. The houses they showed were in Brentwood, but some of the around town scenes were definitely shot in Nashville.

Yes I could see some flat land in a couple of the shows but the Brentwood home was killer and nice setting

Parts of Brentwood are in nice settings (especially the areas west), but most of Brentwood is isn't in those places highlighted on the shows. Personally, I think the topography is better outside of Brentwood to the west between Brentwood and Bellevue. Areas off of Hillsboro, Vaughn, Sneed, Holly Tree Gap, Old Natchez, and Berry's Chapel Rd are gorgeous. Parts of Holly Tree Gap/Murray Ln are in Brentwood, but most of that area is unincorporated Williamson County. Prices are similar (or maybe a hair cheaper) in the unincorporated areas. Those areas are incredibly safe.

Also, don't think you have to go to Vanderbilt to get top quality care. You can get top quality care there, but you can also get that care elsewhere. There are private medical clinics and the other health systems that have just as good care (if not better) in most cases, and the service should be at a higher level.

Another thumbs up for Berry’s Chapel Rd. Although some of those homes might still be on septic tanks and you need to hire a private trash removal company. E

Thank you for the guidance. I like the idea of the topography west of Brentwood.

My spouse has some complicated chronic diseases which tend to present challenging reactions and symptoms. I cant tell you a Dr we have seen ongoing that has not said never seen this before. Dr's who like challenging rather than routine conditions have worked out for us. Her RA Dr here in Dallas is a researcher and knows all the latest meds and when they work best. We can fly back to see him if need be as I know Vanderbilt is not as highly ranked for RA as say UAB is. But we know our odds of finding a Dr which suites us best is in an area such as Vanderbilt but have had great luck with non medical center Drs both in Houston and here in DFW. She consumes a lot of an internist's time so a concierge situation works best for us for this specialty. Other Key specialists are the RA and infectious disease Dr.

I like Knoxville area as well but the Medical situation has swung us to Williamson County area as our focus.

I am confident we can find what we need in Nashville metro. The key challenge is are we up to one more voluntary move at our current ages.

Keep in mind that Brentwood is one of the most affluent, if not THE most affluent, decently sized community in the entire state.

Yes, TN has crime problems and a different reporting structure than most other states, but Williamson County is going to be perfectly safe. There's no way I'd worry about any crime problems there.

Cool Springs Galleria has the mall, restaurants, and all the big box shopping. For general groceries, Publix is probably the grocery of choice - I went to the one at Maryland Farms in Brentwood on my last trip in August.

I think the biggest challenge is that there will simply be less of everything compared to DFW. If you don't like the doctors, you won't have as many alternate choices - that type of thing.

In your case, I'd definitely meet the doctors before committing to a home.

I highly recommend Dr. Robert Lagrone. My husband has been a patient of his for several years for RA.
