There's a gazillion areas but the job is off route 24 in Lavernge/ Smyrna! I-24 is extremly stessfull and one of Americas worst highways You do mot want to count on using it to commute unless you are truly a highway warrior that enjoys doing 200 miles a day just tooling around from one side of town to the other. In the old days 15 years ago it was no big deal. I once went from Hendersonville to a bar in Franklin to see a friend perform, 100 miles round trip for one outing on another side of town. That would not be doable for me today, to much traffic.

Lavenge/ Smryna is one of the last holdouts for reasonabale housing and it's not going to last. You learn how to take the back road called Burket through a semi undeveloped subdivison (look there, you can custom build) to Nolenville Rd or over on Concord to Brentwood and i-65. I would never depend on i 24 for a daily drive, I could not do that. To stressfull.

Some of the suggestions are not taking to account the tremendous stress and long commute you would have to endure to do almost anything if you don't live near work. I want to empazize that Smryna/Laverge is one of the last final frontiers of affordabilty where you are going to find exactly what you described, a large lot, sizable house with potenial garage and outhouses. Other wise the areas near the airport are affordable, for now. Obviously there are many options if the hubby wants to endure a commute that will be horriffic. I had to discontunue my normal trips into "Brentioch" and the areas off Concord Road and Nolensville, which I used to drive almost daily. It is no longer managable and getting worse by the day. The next two years in particular will be worse because they are redoing the 440 and other roads. I only live 10 minutes down I-65 from Concord road, but that drive is so stessful, the people so aggressive on the freeway, I had to stop doing it. Then coming out Wedgewood, less than 2 miles to 65 was taking 20 minites during rush or worse. Once that Soccer stadium is built at the fairgrounds, the traffic is going to be even worse. Nashville is in real car trouble. I'd live near work and plan for the years to come.

Good choice, now learn the backroad to Smyrna and LaVernge. It's just a turn to the left out of lenox Vil thru about a 5 mile stretch of fields and subdivisons and you will hit Smyrna without even getting on the Freeway at all. Not only that it's a beautiful drive! Try Burkitt Road as well as well as Rock Springs Road just up the street from you. Learn to weave through the subdivisons, which by the way, is the housing I mentioned you can buy for very resonable still. Not for long though, I give it 5 years before Smyrna starts to gentrify. Study maps and write down directions manually, don't count on Navigation devices to help you, it will not pick up on all the options, you just have to take the drives and learn the sneaky routes, they are all over! Concord Road will be your Friend, strait to Brentwood, the Rec Center or YMCA and lots of shopping and dining. You might end up loving that spot permananly, it was my stomping grounds everyday for 5 years until I couldn't take the commute and the traffic back to town anymore. I just broke down in the parking lot of the Brentwood Fresh Market on my way to do my laps, and never swam laps again since. I was a lifeguard as well, so it was a real loss, but the strees of driving and over population was already an issue 5 years ago and I couldn't take it anymore.
