SmileDirectClub plans to hire 2,010 new employees through 2024, the fast-growing startup announced Wednesday morning.

The growth would more than double the five-year-old company's Nashville presence, and represents an increase of more than 45 percent in its nationwide workforce.

The planned $217 million investment also comes as the company – valued at $3.2 billion last year – reportedly is considering making an initial public offering this summer.

The jobs will be divided between its downtown offices and expanded facilities in Antioch, officials said in a joint press conference with Gov. Bill Lee on Wednesday morning at the company’s downtown Nashville headquarters.
