Hi all,

I was wondering if any knew about when Nashville (specifically the Hillsboro/Belmont area) would be getting fiber optic based residential internet connections (like Verizon Fios or ATT U-verse or any others I don't know about)?

My limited research has really only come up with DSL and cable, neither of which is all that ideal. (ATT, Comcast, verizon, earthlink, etc).

Any thoughts?

As far as I know, the only place in the Nashville area that has any sort of fiber-to-the-home service is Mount Juliet.

TDS TV! (http://www.tdstelecom.com/tdstv/broadband.asp - broken link)

They offer 15Mbps down/2 MBps up internet service in limited areas of Mt. Juliet (the only area they confirm on their website is Del Webb at Lake Providence).

I'm considering buying a house before the end of the year, I may consider Mt. Juliet for this reason (as well as them having the nearest WOW Wingery - they have quite a few of them in Louisiana, and I loved the wings from there).

I have Verizon high speed internet and I work from home as a contractor for one of the telephone companies so I need speed and reliability and I have no complaints so far. From what I understand probably the only people who need speeds that are faster than what I have are gamers. I don't know if that's what you're into but they really require some blazing speeds. For the average person I'm not sure the expense would really be worth it for a download that might be a split second faster. When I was getting my service set up I was going to get the very fastest speed they had and the customer service person told me that unless I was a gamer I wouldn't really need it so I got the second fastest speed and it works just fine.
