As a Nashville native who was born and raised here, I agree with the OP to a degree as this has been an ongoing thing with Nashville. It promotes itself as "Music City" but it doesn't promote all of it's diverse music offerings. Yes, the city is the self proclaimed home of country music but it's a lot more than that, especially as the city has grown. If we're being transparent it appears that the movers and shakers, decision makers etc. prefer it as is and are not wanting to promote other genres.

Let's face it, country music is considered safe by mainstream society and not associated with "dangerous minorities" therefore, it's more marketable to mainstream America to draw their tourist dollars, which makes good business sense to draw tourists but does nothing for locals or those tourists whom are not interested in the genre.

Are there other events other than country music here? Yes, but the city would do well to promote the other styles of music during big events here, especially for the very culture that the city got it's moniker.

Interesting thread. I recently reconnected with a friend who lives in Nashville. I'm researching things to do there that don't involve Broadway's drunk scene and see a rock/heavy metal show. Most of the places I'm seeing in Nashville only cater to country music. I also thought Nashville was open to all forms of music?

Not sure where you were searching but I just did a quick Google search and found quite a few.

Thanks! Sevendust rocks and I've seen them several times. Hoping to find some local joints too with metal shows. Those are so much fun!

Outside of Downtown and some parts of Midtown, most bars or music venues are actually non-country music generally.

Most of the city prefers genres other than country, but country music brings in much needed tourists dollars.

The Steller Awards, which aired today, was recorded here a few weeks ago at Schemerhorn. Black gospel is huge here.
