Wondering how hard it is to meet nice guys in their 30's in Nashville, I live in ATL and would like to start my own business and move to Nashville. ATL is very difficult to meet anyone single. What are some of the places within Nashville that most people in their 30's and early 40's tend to settle? Thanks for any information you can provide.

From my single girl friends, I hear it is hard to meet guys. They live in the Vandy/Green Hills areas. Should be plenty of people there in that age range. The Gulch downtown is another funky part of town that is being revitalized and young people are moving into.

If your goal is to meet men and get married or live together, I don't think it matters where you live as most places are within easy 30-40 minute commuting and any dating relationship can handle that. If your goal is to date, party and enjoy the single life, downtown areas would seem to fit the bill as you would be convenient to the nightlife.

The Belmont University and Vanderbilt University areas are full of youngish people in houses that can be expensive but are interesting and old. There are lots of apartments there too. They are close to an area called Hillsboro Village which is fun to walk to and enjoy the unique shops and great restaurants. Belmont is good, but avoid the Waverly area unless you are willing to put up with higher crime. The Gulch is close to downtown and has much the same but is more mod/funky. All these areas are considered urban areas and there are the usual crime problems that go with living in an urban area. Gangs aren't the issue at all it is just the usual theft, rape, etc., which are something to consider. But, some find it worth the risks and love living in those areas.

The Green Hills area is great for professional young people and has condos and apartments though not loads of them. It is more upscale and houses are pretty expensive there. For 1000 sq. ft house, expect to pay at least $350k in Green Hills. Still, it is near a great mall if you can stand the traffic which is a MAJOR drawback as there is only one way in and one way out. Commuting SHOULD be no problem but can be bearish on days when there are traffic delays.

Then, if you are truly adventuresome, you could consider the East Nashville experience. There you find funky alternative lifestyles, cool hip restaurants, and older homes with character that don't cost a fortune. HOWEVER, you will have to weigh the very high crime rate there which is not something you can avoid there with ease. If you do consider that area, find somebody to go with you to look at houses that really, really knows what areas are okay and what areas are just too iffy. It can be street by street and sometimes house by house there. But, there are some cool houses there and alot of people love living the grand experiment.

If you are looking more for conservative lifestyles, Brentwood or Franklin are great but not really set up for meeting folks. Again, it is a great place to live though and your dates could simply drive out to pick you up. It is close to most everywhere.

Good luck!
