A mean avenue of weaponizing regulation to harass.

As if low-level renters didn't already have enough problems, this is against homeowners.

Code Snitching: Nashvillians Are Weaponizing Metro Codes Against ‘Undesirable’ Neighbors
“I was stunned and appalled. And frankly, to call it a court gives it way too much credit. It’s a sham. A joke. A predatory body. Here’s the common denominator among the people I saw in that room: poor, Black and elderly. Ninety-five percent of them didn’t have a lawyer. And their rights were being trampled.”

It doesn't take money to keep your property in order. Why should the people that take care of there property have to be affected negatively by people that are too lazy to keep their property on order?

Did you read the article? They wrote a guy up for a mini-fridge in his own garage.

Nashville has building codes? Yes, but the enforcement has always been relaxed. If you want to guaranty that your neighbors keep their property up then stick with Belle Meade, Forest Hills or Oak Hill in Davidson County. Otherwise, you might want to go to Sumner, Williamson or Wilson Counties.

Guarantee there is more to the story than what was written.

We used to have residents (new ones) early in the gentrification process (although we didn't recognize it as such then) who would walk around town measuring the grass in people's lawns, making notes on paint appearance and color, noting the number of cars parked at an address plus a multitude of other items that they found "offensive".

How does having a fridge in your garage translate to not taking care of property? My mother had one in her garage but it had nothing to do with building codes, since it was inside - and she was white.

So your insulating that metro codes are racist against back people?

Much of Nashville outside of Green Hills, Forest Hills, Belle Meade, etc. is filled with streets lined with small, old homes. In many cases, the owners bought their homes years and years ago when they were worth peanuts. Now, as property values have skyrocketed, developers are throwing up new million dollar white 2,500 - 3,000 square foot boxes in the middle of streets containing 900 square foot ranch homes where owners park in the front yards. The woman who just paid a million for her house wants the neighborhood to be brought up to the standard of her new house. Makes sense - you have a nice house so you don't want the surrounding area to look like trash. But at the same time it doesn't make sense because what did you expect when you bought a new home in a poor neighborhood.

Pretty much this. In my neighborhood (urban cord), we've had some newer transplants that think every person who doesn't look like them who is walking down the sidewalk is casing the neighborhood. No, pull you head out of your entitled @@@@ and contemplate that maybe these people live here too and have been here a long time.
