Property owners, especially new buyers, should really make sure they browse their whole property to make sure there are no old unused sump pumps on the property. Severe injury or death can happen in a flash to small children if these things are not securely and properly sealed and secured.

I think you mean septic tanks...right? Sump pumps are usually in your basement and pump out water.

The news story is that it was a deactivated sump pit. I assume it was a sump pit just outside the church foundation to help with drainage at one time.
