I'm coming for a conference in Nashville middle of next week which would be around the Music Valley/Gaylord-Opryland hotel area. Which are the closest modern places to hangout in the evening or late night? I prefer more of a modern/r&B vibe instead of the "old" country vibe that seems to be signature of the Nashville area. I guess one of the places I've seen that I like are 5th & Broadway but it's a good 10+ miles away.

Well, if you head downtown, here are a couple of amazing spots--and downtown is where a lot are concentrated--

This one is in Printer's Alley downtown, a few blocks away from the crowds on Broadway. A good spot for strong drinks and good blues and R&B. I've been here and the live music is incredible.

I've only been to the Music Valley area one time, and we went here--but I think it's country music: Music City Bar & Grill

Most of the spots will be downtown/midtown and vicinity. Here’s a few recommendations to check out:

WKND
Minerva Ave
Montecristo
Vibes Bar & Lounge
L27

If you stay in the Opryland area it is hard not to come under the influence of the Grand Ole Opry. In the mall greatly miss the Tower Records store. Artists would appear on the stage at Tower Records or on the platform near Aquarium Restaurant. Also miss the Gibson factory. Also miss the Ernest Tubb Record Shop that used to be located in Music Valley. Today even the original store on Broadway is gone.

Probably the one store to visit is Bass Pro shop.

Transit may depend if Gaylord still runs free bus to the Ryman, the Country Hall of Fame & other Ryman properties.

Grand Ole Opry shows start 7:00 pm & run to 9:00 pm, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday & Saturday. Sometimes a second show starting 9:30pm.
