Do people mow their lawns year round in Nashville? (Franklin: home, maintenance)

Just curious if people in Nashville mow their lawn year round or is it like Chicago where out last mow is typically in late October/early November and then not again until spring (late March or early April).

I usually have mine mowed starting around late March or early April. The stopping time varies from year to year; anywhere from late October to early December. Last year it was so dry that I believe the last time it was mowed was in September; last year was an exception weather-wise however.

Don't know the exact dates but can tell you I was mowing my girlfriends lawn in Franklin Tn about a month before I was mowing mine back home in the Chicago burbs.
The smell of grass of grass clippings and lawnmower exhaust was euphoric at the time

I found it to be the same way. I wish we cut year round because I love yardwork! Crazy, I know!

Thanks for the replies! Looks like my yard duties won't change much if/when we make the move to Franklin.

The only thing you might keep in mind is that this isn't the best area in the world for lawn grass. It's too hot in the summer for the cool-season grasses like bluegrass, and too cold in winter for the warm-season grasses. So, most people try to make due with fescue, which isn't the prettiest grass in the world. Some of the newer varieties of fescue are an improvement over the older varieties however. It's just that it takes an awful lot of work and effort and water to have a really great lawn here, and most poeple decide it just isn't worth it.

It's worth it to me! My yard is like another child to me.

My current frustration is I have to cut my grass too often...damn rain...so lower maintenance is never a bad thing for me.
