Has anyone gone to Kentucky for shopping. I heard no tax on food..moving to the White House area and I know it's very close to the border. Are there some nice cities close that area? Just wondering...

Many people go across the border for various items. For a while the state put special agents on the border to keep people from going to Kentucky to buy too many cartons of cigarettes. Here lately people have been driving to Oak Grove, KY to buy gas at a station that is selling it cheaply.

About once a month I go to Ky to do my shopping. I stock up on a stuff that I'll need for the month and gas. Last week gas was 3.63 per gal. It has dropped a few cents since then. I live less than 20 miles from Franklin, Ky and it's just as close to the stores where I shop as the ones in Tn. I live in the country and when I leave home I just make a left turn for Ky or right turn for Tn. Same distance. So why not take advantage of the cheaper sales tax. There isn't any tax on food and its 6% on other items.

Thanks Alley and Rainna! Do they have big box stores like Costco or Sams Club in that area of KY?

You are correct that there's no tax on food in KY. I'm in the middle of going to either White House or Franklin, KY to Walmart.

Living in White House, you could go to the Sam's Club near Rivergate Mall (Exit 96 off of I-65). I like Costco better so go down to the one in Brentwood (Exit 69 off of I-65).

Living in White House, you'll only be 15 minutes away from all the shopping, restaurants, etc in Hendersonville (take rt. 258 (Tyree Springs Road) south).

Posting messages on a public message board saying how you dodge taxes is probably not a great idea. You do know that you are supposed to file a use tax return every year for out of state purchases, right?
