Especially for secretaries or administrative assistants with a legal background. How would I go about looking for work? Please don't say Monster.com, etc., I find these sites to be a complete waste of time.

Thanks!!

I'm not sure why you think those sites are a complete waste of time, I and many of my friends have found jobs through web sites such as monster.

Otherwise, check out the classifieds in the tennessean's web site (Nashville's daily paper). Nashville is a white-collar city, there are tons of office jobs, undoubtedly there's a big demand for administrative assistants with a legal background. Being the state capital, there are obviously a lot of government offices.

Good luck!

In Los Angeles, most of the jobs are put up by agencies not companies. Even with a company, I'll submit and never hear anything.

I know I shouldn't compare LA's economy to Nashville's, but I just want to make sure that there really ARE jobs available when I get there. I was under the impression there was a ton of work in Los Angeles with my background and there's not.

Wow, 60 views and know one can tell me about the employment situation in Nashville?

Can you at least tell me if it's good, bad or indifferent?

The December 2006 unemployment rate for the Nashville metropolitan statistical area was 3.5 percent. That's over 767,000 people with jobs.

You can view unemployment rates and trends at the state department of labor web site:

Thanks JMT, but I wanted more specific direct info about the jobs I listed in my original post.

California has wonderful statistics too, which means nothing to me. As I've been unemployed for the last three years here. And trust, I did investigative work a whole year before I moved to LA with agencies telling me that there were jobs available.

I just don't want to make the same mistake again, that's all.

I also backtracked a dozen or so pages in this forum and it seems like most questions regarding employment were either hardly answered or were given the classifieds. I can show you a bunch of jobs listed in the classifieds for Los Angeles, the studio websites, craigslist, monster, etc., but you hardly ever hear anything back.

It makes you wonder how the employment situation really is in the state or city.

I don't work in the legal profession but you shouldn't have a problem getting a job as a secretary or administrative assistant in Nashville in the legal field. There are any number of both small and large law firms as well as state and local governments. I do know admin assistants in other fields have no problem finding a position in Nashville.

Just for your own research, I'd be glad to send you the job classifieds from the Sunday Tennessean newspaper if you care to send me a PM with your address. I would think most of the ads are serious (even though there are better ways to search for a job).

You could also try the Nashville Chamber website at www.nashvillechamber.com. They have a section called JobsLink. I think you'll get better responses from the employers listed there. Also, there is a company membership list. Many of them have websites with a category for employment opportunities.

Personally, I think the pay here could use some improvement.
