Springfield has a very nice historic downtown.
They also have a movie theatre, a lot of restaurants, a very nice hospital.
Parks, a greenway for walking or cycling, good library, Mom/Pop stores, just about anything that you would want... unless, you want a mall, with all of the bigger stores, well, you'd have to go to the Rivergate Mall, which is in Goodlettsville.

I'm betting Joelton doesn't even have a movie theater, but it's been a while since I've been over there. Things can change in a month around here with all the construction.

Ashland City also has a definite downtown; not a very big one but it is a downtown complete with County Court House. But . . . I doubt it's what the original poster was looking for.

Springfield is far off of the interstate, so if you are looking to commute that may eliminate Springfield. Springfield has just about everything you need as far as retail (Walmart, Lowes, Kroger, etc). Ashland City isn't quite as big, but still has a Walmart (and maybe Kroger - no Lowes or Home Depot, though).

I personally would not live in either Springfield or Ashland City.

If you want quiet, safe, good schools, and convenient to the interstate, try Pleasant View. One subdivision to check out would be Pleasant View Downs. They will have houses closest to your price range. www.pleasantviewdowns.com (broken link)

Not a huge retail area, but grocery store, general merchandise store, hardware store, pharmacy, a few restaurants - sit-down and fast food - chinese, mexican, catfish, sonic, subway, pizza place (that actually delivers), movie rental place, doctor and dentists offices in town, car repair, body shop, landscape nursery, antique store, weekly newspaper, several banks, post office, laundromat, storage unit place, even a small private school. Pretty much all you need. I do 99% of my shopping right there in town, and was actually doing most of my shopping in Pleasant View before I moved there (lived in Clarksville and worked in Nashville - Pleasant View was convenient, and quick and easy to get into and out as far as shopping goes).

Pleasant View will be your best bet.

Springfield is a very nice town that has very reasonable housing prices and everything you would probally need. It is very easy access to nashville etc.
