I always hate to hear stories like this. These "disputes" of which they talk are foreign to me. Perhaps I lived in a happy bubble when I was 16, but never did I see anything more than disagreements which were easily settled. Nowadays, it seems guns often become an answer. Gang codes of conduct and power are a sad fact in most any city and unfortunately, the settling of disputes ends with gunfire. The problems escalate when innocent people are placed in the line of fire and often get hurt or killed. I'm glad I'm not charged with solutions; I have none.

I'm assuming these kids were black judging from the complex's location, as were the teens who caused such trouble in Belle Meade the other night. My only hope is that perhaps the new President will serve as a role model so desperately needed in this country. Many of these kids grow up with no sense of hope and gangs tend to fill a void in their lives. Unfortunately, these are very dangerous and thrive on no sense of consequence of action. Maybe as the years go by, we'll see less of this nonsense. It'll be a slow change, but my hope is that it will change. This type of behavior should be the exception more than what it appearing to be the rule.

In the meantime, this will continue to happen. We can only pray for a change of attitude among our inner city kids and they can be shown a better way.

The saddest part is that "East Nashville shooting" has become such a common phrase in the news lately that most people in town are becoming jaded to it.

To me the sad part was the fact that he was 16. He was a child. A mere child. 16 years. That is horribly wrong.
