Hello my name is Kelli and I currently live in Ohio with my husband and 2 kids. A few years back now my husband was in the army. He got called to Iraq and left from Ft Campbell. While he was there myself and kids visited as much as we could before his deployment. Well needless to say we fell in love with Clarksville. We have been wanting to relocate there but just dont know how. If anyone can help we would be greatful for any tips or advice.

I'm orginally from Clarksville (and my mother still lives there). If I wanted to relocate from Ohio to Clarksville, I would first find a real estate agent and get the ball rolling, then I would schedule a visit of a few days so the agent could show me the houses available and I could spend some time just driving around and getting a feel for the various areas of Montgomery County and possibly arranging job interviews (you didn't mention that, so I'm not sure what your situation is). Spring (April, May) would be a great time for a visit; it's very pretty around here when the trees are leafing out and the flowers are in bloom.

Good luck.

Default thanks for the info

My husband and I are thinking of coming down the first part of April. He needs to get a job while we are down there. After that then we need to get a place to live. Is there anything like rent to own houses there? Once we have a place I am coming back to Ohio with the kids. I will stay here until June so my son can finish out the school year. In the mean time I will be packing and getting rid of what we dont need. Any other help is always welcomed and again thank you!

There are rent-to-own houses. You'd have more of a selection just buying however. You might find a home in a newer subdivision that the builder would be willing to do a rent-to-own deal on.

You should be able to use your husbands VA certificate. Check with the VA where you are and get a copy of it.
You wouldn't have to put any money down on a house, and it would probably be much better for you than renting to own.

I was also wondering how are the school systems as I have a son who will be entering 2nd grade and my daughter will be entering kindergarten. I also need to know how are the utilities?

I would look into the Sango Area (south Clarksville) If I remember correctly some of their elementary schools rate pretty high across the state.
The name East Montgomery comes to mind, but I'm not 100% sure of the name.
Utilities..hmm my friend lives there and the elec runs avg 100 a month, but the water bill is about $50 a month for a family of four.

One slight correction, Sango is in the east Montgomery County area. I grew up in East Montgomery County and my mother lives there now. It used to be "the country" but isn't so much anymore. Some of the communities in the area in addition to Sango are Fredonia, Shady Grove, Mt. Carmel, Excel, and others.

I would think the elementary schools would be acceptable to you; I'm not sure about the high schools anymore (I went to Clarksville High, but that was years ago).

As for utilities, they's reasonable. Electric rates are relatively low here. More would depend on what kind of house you're living in and how it's heated and cooled. You'd be much happier with a heat pump or some other kind of central heat and air than using radiant heat and window air conditioners. If you use those, your electric bill will be twice as much.
