I was wondering, my wife and I eat only organic foods and was wondering if there was a Whole Foods or Farmers Markets in or around Nashville? If so, are there good priced organics and in what store? Also looking for a store that sells organic meats. Thanks.

There are Whole Foods and Wild Oats (which has been bought by Whole Foods, I believe). Most larger grocery store now carry a selection of organically-grown produce. I'm not sure about "organic meat" (I'm not even sure what it is). You will generally pay more for organic, although there is sometimes sales (for example, I bought a 3-lbs. bag of apple on Friday for $3.49).

And there's a nice Farmers Market in Nashville. I doubt whether much of the produce there is organic however. There might be some. There are also some places where farmers come on certain days to sell their produce out of the back of their trucks.

I know The Farm over in Summertown grows organic produce and also has some kind of program where people pay them to grow certain things. I'm not sure what the cost of this is; it might be economical, or it might not.

Wow, it sounds like we need to move to the Nashville area as soon as we can. LOL Organic meat is meat that has not been sprayed with toxins like all store bought meat and the animals are raised with organic feed. The taste of organic chicken is so much better and better for you. Thanks for the Farmer's Market advice. It's reallly good to know there are stores there.

This is the website for the Farmers Market: http://www.nashvillefarmersmarket.org/

I work nearby, so I sometimes go and have lunch there.

I'm sure you'd probably be able to find organic meat somewhere around here. I just don't know where offhand. You can find "beefalo" too. ;-)

The Franklin Farmers Market (May-Sept) has clean meat, dairy, eggs, preserves, produce, floral, herbs, chocolates, Toney's salsas & cookies, pies, etc. Most are organic, some are just unsprayed, so ask. Some offer shares and 1/2 shares (pick up at the farm or the market). There's an organic doggie treat vendor, a relish & preserve guy, and an amazing baked goods booth featuring a candy bar cake that I see in my dreams! Some Amish farmers, mostly just regular organic operations.

It's held at the Factory. It has gotten so big they built a new structure to hold it all. There's always a bluegrass band and seating area, potters, photographers, soap artisans, etc.

Come have a cup of free-trade coffee or fruit tea and load up on tomatoes, peaches, corn, berries, honey granola bars, and oh- say hi to Laura. She's a recent high school grad who started her booming business a few years ago at the market. Best breads, pumpkin bars, brownies, cinnamon rolls and lemon bars in town!! Don't forget to enter the prize drawing before you leave

There's an organic meat farm and dairy between Nashville and Cookeville called Peaceful Pastures. I'll PM you their web site. They even make their own soaps and other bath products. They deliver to Nashville, Lebanon, and Cookeville.

The Turnip Truck in East Nashville is a great store. It sure beats driving out to Hillsboro to Wild Oats.

For organic meat, eggs, etc we belong to a CSA thru Avalon Acres. They deliver once a week to our neighborhood. They have different price ranges for families, empty nesters and neighbors who want to split the coast of a subscription.

Check out their website at:

Hey Thanks JMT and Artemis. I checked out the website and it looks like they are a very good farm to buy from. We are looking at moving in Cheatham County so hopefully they will be able to either deliver there or my wife and I could drive over there and buy produce. (( :
