One of my friends grew up in Old Hickory, in the 1960-70's. She salks about how great it was then. How is it now? Schools, safety, commute into downtown Nashville?

Still a beautiful area. While I do not live there, I visit frequently. Minutes to downtown depending on where you are in Old Hickory.

The Old Hickory area has been experiencing something of a rebirth in the past few years. It's something of a unique area that is somewhat like a self-contained village. It's a safe area as far as I know (I certainly rarely hear about anything bad happening there), and the commute to downtown wouldn't be bad.

The only possible negative is the schools if you have high school aged children. Metro Nashville has a real problem with the public school system at the moment; the one bright spot is some very powerful people are making a commitment to improving it.

Having friends and clients in the area, its been a good community for them. The commute to downtown or the newer Providence area in Mt Juliet is very convenient. The Old Hickory Village area is kind of unique and fun for an older established residential neighborhood. If you are used to driving 'here to there' for work and play - its actually a very good value. Your money seems to go further in Old Hickory than many of the newer, more developed communities further down I-40. Lots of housing choices too (buy or rent).

Any specific needs or interests that we can give additional feedback on for you?

Huh? Old Hickory is a nice (albeit older) area with relatively low crime and some beautiful lakefront homes. Madison is... well... Madison. I don't understand your post.

No offense to anyone that lives in Old Hickory, If you're a fan of confederate flags and lawn ornaments than it's a great place to live...
