My family and I are planning to relocate to Nashville from Louisiana this summer. I work as a laboratory assistant for a local hospital . My daughter is a RN. She also has a 1 year old baby who will be moving as well. We will be living together at first and will be looking for employment within a hospital to allow us to both work and hopefully keep my grandbaby at home until we are more familiar with the area and she is a little older--due to her prematurity. What hospitals would you recommend we look into? One of our biggest concerns is that we hopefully find employment near a decent area to live that is safe, affordable, and within close proximity to work. My daughter has an interest in possibly working for Vandy and I am interested in the VA. Any information on these 2 facilities would be helpful. Also, what areas would be potential good choices for living areas if we found employment there? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

You will have many options as there is a wide variety of hospitals. The VA hospital is actually on the Vanderbilt campus. Both VA Hospital and the Vanderbilt Medical Center have detailed websites that should be able to answer most of your questions. Additionally, there is Baptist Hospital, St. Thomas Hospital, and Centennial Hospital(HCA). All of these hospitals are within about two miles of each other. HCA also has a number of other hospitals in the surrounding area(Skyline, Southern, etc.). Just 'Google' HCA hospitals in Nashville to get their individual websites. There is also Williamson County Medical Center in Franklin.
As far as finding a place to live that meets your requirements, your best bet is probably to rent until you become familiar with the area. Everybody's definition of "safe, affordable, and within close proximity to work" differs quite a bit. It's difficult to suggest areas to live without more specifics.

My wife moved to Nashville from a town called Cut Off in South Eastern Louisiana. She loves it here and is in the health care field she actually started as a Pharmacy Tech but is now in nursing school. She says that Tennessee pays almost double for health care then what Louisiana does and there is a better quality of life.

Really? I'm a medical technologist and left practical lab work because the pay in TN was so much lower than where I used to live. I'm an Applications Specialist for a clinical chemistry company now.
