Hi, We have been looking into moving to Murfreesboro and even took a trip down, from Michigan, last month. My husband and I came to the conclusion that the best way to find "our" home is to rent for awhile and get a feel of the area. We have 4 childern and want to prevent moving them from one school district to another in Murfreesboro. Our hopes are to find a home in the Blackman school district, so we also would like to rent around there. Does anyone know of a nice, safe comfortable apartment complex that would be suitable? We are looking to spend around $900, give or take a bit. Prefer ground floor. Townhouses or condos are also an option to rent. Would we have better luck contacting a realtor to help us in our search?? Know a good one? Thanks for your time!!!

Only two districts in M'Boro:

Murfreesboro City Schools (K-6) and Rutherford County Schools (K-12).

Blackman area kids only go to RCS.

Any reason you've narrowed it down to this area? I'm not trying to be a hater, but having spent time in those schools they aren't much different than say a Siegel or Christiana school.

Any in that part of town will be safe and I assume nice.

You mentioned having 5 kids. How big of a place are you looking for?

I wouldn't bother.

Thanks for responding Mike. Why Blackman? Mainly due to the positive responses during my research. Not married to the idea, but I am leaning. We have 4 children. A 3 bedroom rental would be good for us. We intend on renting for 6-12 months. Did you know the names of any of the apartment complexes around there. We also liked the area around Christina when we visited. That is a possibility too.

You might have a hard time finding a large enough/nice enough home or townhouse to rent for under $900 in the Blackman area. Some developments in that area include:

The Villas at Indian Creek - townhomes. These are not typically rental units, but I'm sure you can find plenty that are available for rent.

The Villas at Cloister - townhomes

Indian Creek - homes

Berkshire - homes - there are a wide inventory of homes here from $150 all the way up to half million. There are several homes here for rent, but I wouldn't count on too many of them being under $900 a month.

These a just a few of the closest developments that *might* have rentals in your price range. There are plenty more a bit further out or with pricer homes. Blackman is a great area and I've heard nothing but good things about the schools.

Cross Creek at Victory Station is the only apartment complex that feeds into Blackman schools, I think. There are several more, but I don't know where the lines are drawn for the county schools vs the city schools. Somoe places may even give you a choice of which district to attend such as complexes in the St. Andrews and Cason Lane areas.

I'm not sure of the Schools by St Andrews Apartments, but they have a 3 bedroom for under, $900, and with 4 kids you need at least that.
They are nice Apartments, and the rental agent Linda is very accomadating. I just rented an apt for my son in the Complex. The complex does have a pooL and an exercise room.

denisemonroe, do you have the option of 'landing' in an extended stay hotel for the first week or so then moving into the right rental? There are a lot of rentals available in the area right now and you might be able to apply the same reasoning to your rental search (in a week or two) as you mention for your home search.

There are also several homes for sale that might consider a one year lease. Six months may be harder right now for them; that would have them empty again too close to the start of school - a driving force in home sales.

I'd be happy to help point you in the right direction where possible, or open a few additional options. Craigslist and some of the listing sites might be the best selection (and deals) next to driving through the neighborhoods...

For the size place you'll need, it's not going to be really easy to find a place under $900/mo. Might have to branch out of the Blackman area for that. With the exception of a couple, most of the schools in the Murfreesboro part of Rutherford County are fairly equal.

I could be wrong, but I think a lot of those kids go to either Scales or CLA for elementary; Central or Rockvale for middle; and Riverdale for high school. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Isn't Scales Elementary a very desirable school Mike? Moreso than Blackman?
