Hi,

I've been working the past 8 months in CA part-time. Barely getting by and trying to find full time in this state around Los Angeles or in southern california. I finally got an offer for a full-time elgiblity worker to work for Davidson County in Nashville or Montgomery County in TN. I'm a Christian and also a video gamer and I heard I'd probably would find other Christians and nerds to hang out with. I have a good cushion in my bank account, over 10k. I'm in my late 20s and don't want to keep working part time. My heart in social services, but I can't afford to fork out $30,000 for a MSW. I'd rather put my money saved up for a house and also I HATE SCHOOL and don't want to go back.

I just applied for a full-time job at my current non profit and was shut down after dedicating alot of my time and soul to them.

I interviewed for one last job in California last week at a homeless outreach non profit, but I'm not feeling optimistic about my odds of getting that. I drove two hours for that interview during my unpaid holiday break. I don't want to move to some icky place in CA like Fresno or Bakersfield. I'd consider Riverside or San Bernardino, but somehow they think I'm too far to be considered and wouldn't do a skype interview like the State of TN did. All the coastal areas are very competetive to get work unless you know some one or have a graduate degree.

I have heard state jobs in TN are different from ones in CA. Not sure to what extent.

Any advice?

Thank you,

the city

I moved to the Nashville area in June of 2017 from Northern CA. (But I've spent a lot of time in the LA area) My first thought would be to head out here and check it out. (there are several LAX - BNA non-stops a day) One thing you will notice right away is that most people are religious here and those who are not, don't look at you like you've lost your mind. It is really nice for me, coming from CA, to hear a person say, "Have a blessed day" and mean it. So as far as being a Christian, you'll fit in here. There are also gamers too. I play them, but don't consider myself a "gamer." When you look at salaries, remember there is a 30 - 40% cost of living difference. (If you live outside of Nashville proper) It really is a great place to live in my opinion.

I grew up in Clarksville, TN and would be happy to answer any questions about the city and surrounding areas. I've also been to Nashville millions of times.

Based on your salary, and what matters to you I would choose Clarksville. It is a Christian community with a strong military presence. You will be able to afford to purchase a home/condo due to the low cost of living there.
