I've gotta ask, does Nashville regularly get as much snow as nashvols shared in post #246?

No. Not regularly. That snow actually shut the city down. Just about every type of business imaginable closed down during that one. I think that was about 8-9 inches. One of the biggest snows I can recall as a lifelong Nashville resident.

The only regular thing about Nashville snow is the irregularity/unpredictability of it. 3 years ago weather people joked about a "snow dome" above Nashville keeping snow out (fronts bringing heavy snow would just give out when hitting Nashville and have only a dusting or just cold rain). Last year we got quite a bit of snow for our area. Most winter storms here bring ice first and somewhere between a dusting-2 inches in most places. I'd say expect one to two of those a season. Sometimes more.

We have had 5 snowfalls of 6"+ since 1985. So on average, about every 6-7 years. However, there was a 13 year period between 6"+ snowfalls from 2003-2016.

I would say a typical Nashville winter consists of a half dozen to a dozen "snows", most of which are flurries and don't accumulate. A few result in dustings, and usually one or two result in 1-3" of snow and mess traffic up royally.

Okay, thank you both! I have been kicking around the idea of moving to Nashville and your responses definitely help me in factoring in variables of my decision!

Plan on 4 seasons here. Winter is mild by midwestern or northeastern standards in that it isn't as long of a period of sustained cold...but we can get rounds of very low temps at times. Highs in the upper teens/low 20s aren't uncommon though not sustained. Spring and Fall are fantastic. Low humidity, really hard to beat the weather during those seasons. I feel like we have 2 summers...early and regular. Early summer is nice, probably on par with much of the rest of the non-south country. Low 90s, tolerable humidity. Then around July 4 it kicks up to high. High humidity, high temps. Droughts are common too (though not this year). By early August, we're ready for Fall.

Thanks DonCorleone! Hmm, sounds something like Austin though I think we have somewhat worse runs of summer weather, and "they" are saying that 2016 was a critical year in global warming which is partly what led to such a hot summer. When I visit Nashville this October or November I hope I can provide this thread with some cool autumn photos!

Here is a video of the core areas of Nashville that someone did a couple of years ago in memory of his brother who loved his adopted hometown of Nashville. Sadly, Paul's passing prompted this tribute video.

Enjoy!
