If it was close to Gallatin Pike, I can understand why you'd move. That stretch has gotten rougher over time.

My only point is that Gallatin Pike isn't all of Madison. There are still safe, quiet, affordable neighborhoods here.

Is McGavock HS really that bad?

I will do my own research and put my observation and other info here on the school.

I heard good things about Nashville School of Arts - a magnet school. In case McGavock High does appear risky to put my kid into, can Hermitage kids go to Nashville School of Arts to study ? How about Mt Juliet HS for Hermitage kids?

Thanks for all the info.

Pimpy, when you talk of McGavock HS as gang-infested, do you mean HS kids forming their own gangs or do you mean Adult gangs outside the perimeter of the school who may kidnap, abuse, drug HS kids?

Probably means HS kids in gangs, including ones that extend beyond the borders of the schools they attend.

I've met plenty of law-abiding, well-to-do citizens, including college graduates that went to McGavock HS.

There's a rough element there, but there are plenty of great kids as well.

Both are to be expected in a school of almost 3,000.

I mean that there are dozens upon dozens of members of legitimate street gangs such as Bloods, Crips, Brown Pride, Kurdish Pride, etc., that are students at the school. I'm sure there are wannabe gang-bangers that "form their own gangs," but there are many who are the real deal.

Thank you all so much. How about Dupont Elementary School? It is a small population and I drove by there and looks peaceful.

Mt. Juliet is in Wilson County, so you wouldn't be able to send your kids there if you lived in Davidson, barring a special exemption such as teaching in that school system. But if you like Hermitage yet you're seriously concerned about McGavock (I don't think people have a real beef with the elementary/middle schools in Hermitage), you could just slide east a mile or two and get across the county line into Mt. Juliet. Once you're east of Old Hickory Boulevard, that part of Hermitage and western MJ blend together and it's not obvious (if you're not looking for the signs) where one stops and the other starts.
