Guys, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
You are correct. You have to go to the public schools that you are zoned for. You can apply for a special transfer, which is a big hassle or you could find someone's address to use in the school zone that you so desire. Not all of MNPS are as bad as they are made out to be.

I don't think that is true now.

According to the MNPS website (Open Enrollment) they have eliminated special transfers and now practice open enrollment. If there are seats available at a school you prefer, you can enroll your child there but you will have to provide the transportation.

I moved to Nashville 3 years ago after living everywhere from Los Angeles to Des Moines, IA. I just bought a house in Madison and absolutely love it here. As in all metropolitan cities, there are good areas and bad areas. Stay away from main arteries, like Gallatin Rd., where there are stores that are open 24 hours. My experience has been to drive through neighborhoods you are interested in at different times of the day, and different days of the week, to see what they are really like.

I will mention something about North Nashville that Dickerson Road goes North of Nashville or is exactly Northeast Nashville and it's not really unsafe in zip code 37207 it just depends on where you live.

The North Nashville to stay away from is all of zip code 37208 such as Jefferson Street and Bordeaux and West Trinity Lane Haynes area part of zip code 37207.The rest of zip code 37207 is fine just like zip code 37206 and 37216 it just depends on the neighborhood you live in.

Zip codes 37207 and 37206 are safe to live in as long as your neighborhood has a good one to two mile distance away from any bad section 8 apartment complexes or old public housing.

I would not recommend leaving unsecured tools in your truck bed at the lowes on n'ville rd. either. My pressure washer grew legs and walked off while i ran in to pick something up with it in the truck. but the mexican food over there is great. There are upsides to everything. and the zoo is not dangerous and is totally worth the drive over there.

Depends on who you are. I went to school for several years on Jefferson Street and never had a problem. I doubt I'd ever want to live over there but it doesn't mean that it's an area to avoid. You'd also have to miss out on the farmers market since it too, Is in the 37208 zip code...

Yes very true I just feel that I am that special kind of a person who has his reasons to keep away from zip code 37208 and that places in the Green Hills part of Nashville,Goodlettsville,TN,certain parts of East Nashville, and Hendersonville,TN have stores that I like to go and feel comfortable at.

However I do live in East Nashville in the 37207 zip code and there is very very few places if any on Dickerson Road that I care for mainly because of well how can I put it mean and trashy people I guess that live and work around there except for a few places I like around there so I live in zip code 37207 but I don't shop or hardly eat there much but I like my nice neighborhood and home so I hope for gentrification one day.

The very few places in zip code 37207 that I do shop and eat at are Jay's Family Restaurant,Chicago Style Gyros, the new Walgreens,Fat Mo's,the new Lowe's,and the Shell fuel station next to Taco Bell but I surely will check out Eastland Cafe and The Turnip Truck which is in zip code 37206 which is not far from me either as I feel those are places that may be more of what I like.

I go to that nice Publix in Goodlettsville,TN at Caldwell Square a lot which I love going to as it's so safe and peaceful there and there are many good fast food restaurants with clean, nice, and decent people out there on Long Hollow Pike in Goodlettsville,TN I like as well particularily a decent Wendy's out there as well and it's a long way out but me and my family go for it when we can.I just like going to good places and I hope for the best that zip code 37207 and Dickerson Road can change one day.

Dodge City-north side near clarksville highway. They shoot cops out there
Lischey Ave-dont stop at stop signs
The Bottoms-James Cayce on Shelby
JC/University Ct.
These are the only places that I dont like being in,but then again,I have friends of many different backgrounds and a "ghetto pass" in most neighborhoods in the ville.

I'll break these down tho.....
Linbar Ave./Harding Place "Little Mexico"-Near my home. Lots of Drug Activity
Antioch-Theft/Robbery,drugs,a shooting from time to time
West Nashville "The Nations"-lots of white trash and crackheads
Woodbine-a mix of "The Nations" and "Little Mexico" (and also where I was born)
Cheatham Place-watch your a$$
