Hi all! I'm considering moving to Nashville from Louisville, KY. If I do, I'll most likely be working downtown VA/VAnderbilt hospital area. I've heard horror stories about commuting. Can you give me an idea of what that's like? Currently, a bad commute here in Louisville is about an hour. A good day is 30 minutes.
If I move to Nashville, I'd like to try to find a quiet, safe townhome type setting to rent. What areas do you suggest? I can spend up to about $800 per month. I'm in my 30's so I'm not looking for a retirement area nor a college age community. If there is a commute involved from the places you suggest, can you tell me what to expect? thanks!

Wow I can't believe no one has replied... I live near Vandy's hospital, and I must say I got pretty lucky finding my place. A lot of the small apartment type places don't advertise online and stuff. Louisville isn't that far away (I drive up often to visit friends), so why don't you drive down one day if you can and drive around the West End Area. Specifically from Elliston place on up towards Acklen Park. I run/jog in these areas and see lots of apartments & there are tons of new townhomes off Acklen Park & West End. Although, I am warning you, to find one for $800 might be rare. That's all I can suggest. I don't think my landlord even put an ad in the paper let alone craigslist or anything else!!!

I do suggest scouring craiglist. I didn't find mine on there, but it led me to mine! (I took a wrong turn after looking at an apartment I found on craigslist, The Westboro, and saw this little building with a sign that said "Apartment for Rent"!)

If you have any other questions, let me know, I'm happy to help. I hope this helped a little.

for areas close to the downtown my vote goes for two places.

German Town and HIllsboro. My two favorite spots in Nashville.

Westend! Bristol on Broadway might have a cheap studio.
