I am hoping to get some kind responses whether or not my family and I will be accepted in the TN area, as we are from the "North" however we are fairly conservative but not too religious either, we however are very tolerant of others.

Anyhow, we would like to find a nice community, suburb of TN that is better than average in respect to schools and housing. We can spend bout 200 grand for a home and I have heard that is doable in this region.

I was hoping to get the lowdown on what to avoid, as all areas have those kind of places, and where to graviate towards, any help is most appreciated and a want to also send a big thank you to you all down that way, we really are southerners at heart!

Possibly your new neighbor!

Another "will we be accepted" post. I don't understand where people get the idea that this is a problem.

In other words, don't worry about it. It's not Mars, it's just the South

Welcome!

Default no worries

Hello,
You have nothing to worry about! It's not some kind of backwards state where we don't know anything or have any culture..
TN is a great place and it's not much different than the North; though there are more nice people around here. You would be fine anywhere around TN, but stay away from Memphis unless you are transferred there. Everywhere else is good!

Default Thanks...

We are leaning towards TN now, and have been researching the area alot and we are really liking what we have been hearing, as opposed to other states and areas. We may be moving to Southeast Nashville. Memphis, I hear is rather wild and crazy, so I hear anyhow! Thanks again!~

You'll be fine here. Most of the people I work with are from Ohio. I am from Northern Indiana.

There's a lot of us transplants here!

Don't get too ruffled by the posters on the board who have portrayed southerners as unaccepting of Yankees. We did not meet one person down there that cared we are from the North. And actually everyone was nicer to us than people are in our own suburb.

Look into Wilson county for the criteria you are looking for. Lebanon or Mt Juliet would both be great options for you.

Default welcome

Hey there,
Welcome to Tennessee! I'm actually a transplant from Texas; you'll enjoy it down here! As the previous poster stated, look into Mt. Juliet or Lebanon if you want to live around Nashville, or you could look at Murfreesboro, but it is growing rapidly..

How about the Spring Hill area in Maury County?

Spring Hill probably has as many Northerners (particularly from Michigan) as Southerners. Spring Hill was a sleepy little village before Saturn came to town. After that, thousands of auto workers from Michigan and their families moved to town.
