True, but the poster has a degree from UVA. This will separate him from all the others.

LOL. Dream on.

I've worked in entertainment most of my life and Gaylord (who dominates all the job postings at the link you provided) does not even respond to me, having applied to jobs I could do in my sleep there.

WAKE UP.....THIS IS THE WORST JOB MARKET......EVER.

These are dated, but apply anyway and see if they still have openings, anything coming open soon, and maybe they can keep you on file.

I don't mean to be a killjoy, but it takes more than a bachelors degree in this job market to be noticed. I've got the degree and experience. 5 years ago I was consulting in IT and turning down $80/hour. Now I can't even get a call back. I'm working, but not in my chosen field and making a fraction of what I was even 2 years ago.

Let me join the killjoy parade. Not only is education not helping, experience isn't either. I'm applying to jobs that pay half or less than half of my previous income. And they still have that same long laundry list of demands in their job descriptions. And sometimes those jobs are in fancy schmancy locales like Brentwood.

Employers are becoming scrooges around here. The cost of living hasn't decreased, but they sure think they can cut our buying power down to nothing. Cut my mortgage payments in half, my car payments, my electric bill, my food bill, my gas expenses, etc., by the same amount and we'll talk.

I think I read somewhere that a household income needs to be around $50K or higher to afford housing/living in the metro area, but that's probably based on the median prices. Plenty of households need way more than that.

My husband had to give up on IT as well. Now he earns half of his previous income in a completely different profession, but probably a more secure one. In all likelihood my income will also be cut in half....if someone will even hire me. I'm also looking for a secure profession because the stress of job hunting is killing me and I don't want to go through it again.

But to respond to the OP.....I have moved to Florida without jobs and to Tennessee without jobs. Nobody would hire us before we were physically there. Then (in Florida at least) I had to temp for about a year. As it turns out, we arrived there in a mild recession, and nobody was hiring. In Tennessee, we arrived in a healthy economy and I found work within a month's time. We did have savings to live on in the meantime while we rented.

Fast forward to today. We are in the deepest recession ever....the worst economy since the depression. It's a risky time to move without a job. Heck, it's a risky time to stay put without a job.

Where is your bachelors degree from? UVA is consistenty ranked in the Top 20 best colleges. Graduates coming out from top tier schools, such as UVA, have not had much problems getting jobs. In addition, most of the job losses have come from blue-collar fields.

I'm an unemployed white collar professional.

You sound awfully young and idealistic. The employment world is much more brutal than you think.
