Does anyone have a faster route that avoids some of the traffic on I-65??

Teleportation...

No, I don't think there is a route that avoids traffic, sorry. Just try to avoid peak travel times, if you can.

I am in White House and I asked a friend of mine not long ago the very same question. This person used to commute to Brentwood until changing to a job closer to home.

Here's the response. Mainly, it's about using Ellington instead of I-65 where the two run parallel to each other:

"I used to get off (mainly) at the Spring St. Exit which is next to last on Ellington go a block or so then get on the interstate 24 (East?) ramp heading past LP stadium over Sillivan Evans bridge staying right toward 4th Ave then merge left onto I-65. You can also take the opposite direction from the 1st Jefferson St. interstate ramp and head in the Metrocenter direction merging left then around to I-65 from that direction. Both were pretty even time wise.

"Both often have quirks especially on the return trip home with a bottle neck either way in the downtown areas. You can Google LP Stadium for a decent map of these streets and spots.

"If a traffic backup was seen ahead or heard on radio approaching the Spring Exit off Ellington then would take the Cleveland St. exit just before and turn left go to Gallatin Rd. ("Main St") then right toward town but turn right on S. 5th St., a main intersection over to Spring St.

"I was a frequent listener to WSM-AM prior to leaving and while on the road to get Richard Thomas's traffic reports just in case on route had a traffic problem. I finally changed my hours to 7:15 to 4:15 but usually arrived around 7 AM.

"In eliminating a lot of I-65 ........You might consider a Briley Parkway West (155) route from I-65 then I-40 onto 440 East over to I-65 South to Brentwood. Think this could especially be a good alternative on the return trip. That or just depending on the area of Brentwood take I-40 all the way from Briley West.

"Usually 440 West to Briley West is not bad in the afternoon and eliminates the downtown leg of the trip. Briley West seems out of the way but time and hassle wise may be better. It's definitely more scenic and less traffic for the most part."

Hope this helps. I have not tried this myself but am keeping it as a reference in case I ever need to travel to Brentwood on a day when I-65 is too messed up to consider.

I see only one problem with most of those; and that is that they are out of the way. The exception being Ellington Pkwy. Although, there you also must deal with the Hendersonville/Madison/Old Hickory traffic before getting to Briley, then on to Ellington. My take on the majority of those would be, not saving much actual time, but feeling better about it since you are moving, rather than sitting in traffic.

Eliminating the downtown leg in both directions will be key to keeping your speed up. But to do that, you will be adding quite a bit more distance. It's all a trade off.
