I may be getting a job in TN and it will be fairly close to Nashville. I have been glancing at apartments just to get ready in case they do offer me the job. I was looking at this place in Madison, TN thats listed on apartments.com and wondering if anyone knows that area very well?

I'm kinda looking to be within walking distance to some fun stuff to do, but it's not that big a deal. I would rather live somewhere nice with lower rent then pay the price that comes with living near a lot of points of interest.

Also the job is in portland. I have only spent a few minutes around there but would anyone recommend it over living in Nashville?

The drive from Madison to Portland is about thirty miles one way -- you'd be driving 300 miles a week. It's an easy drive -- mostly interstate, and no real rush hour since you'd be going in the opposite direction from most commuters.

The rent is less expensive in Portland, and Nashville's not so far away that it would be difficult to visit.

I was looking at Forest Park's Apartments in Madison.

The only thing about portland is, it doesn't look like much of a happening night life. I would like to be able to maybe goto a small bar from time to time, be close to some alright shopping, etc. I'm not in the mood to have the peace and serenity of the country.

I don't know those apartments specifically, but that part of town is a bit rough. Generally, the farther from Gallatin Pike, the better Madison gets. Forrest Park is a little too close to the commercial corridor.

Most of the apartments here are close to Gallatin Pike. Have you thought about renting a small house instead?

A small house would be fine as long as its affordable.

Try Hendersonville. It is situated conveniently both to Portland and to downtown Nashville, has a lot more "life" than Portland, and is much safer than the area of Madison you mentioned. In fact, you won't find many safer areas in Middle Tennessee. As far as specific apartments go, look up Monthaven Park, Arbors on Main, and Hickory Run.

Depends on what you mean by "life." There's more than Portland has, but that's not saying much.

Hendersonville isn't really known for its nightlife, and is still very car-centric.

Contrary to what some seem to believe, Hendersonville isn't for everyone.

Edited to add: I'm on the road right now, without reliable internet access, so I'll probably be bowing out of this thread.

Because I recommended Hendersonville to someone who works in Portland but says he/she wants to be closer to fun things to do and also be in a nice, safe area, that means I think "Hendersonville is for everyone"?

Since all you did was criticize my post without providing a viable alternative, why not suggest a better choice for the OP? And no, Madison isn't it.

Given the fact that you recommend Hendersonville in the majority of threads you post in, then, yeah, I think you do believe Hendersonville is for just about everyone.

And, predictably, you trash Madison in the process. I'm just surprised you didn't use the word "cesspool" while doing it.

I'll let you get the last word in, since you're the expert here. I'm done with you.

My apologies, mosiac. Feel free to send me a private message if you have any questions about the area. I live in Madison, and have been here for about eight years. Before that, I lived in Gallatin for over a decade.
