New to TN, check engine light on (failed emissions), and unwilling to pay a premium at the dealer. Any first-hand advice with Audi service appreciated.

Default try this one....

Nashville Autohaus on 6th Avenue, phone (615) 742-1553.

I would avoid Import Auto Maintenance on Broadway.

Take it to Autozone and have them pug it in. They can at least tell you the code that is turning the engine light on. It's usually an EGR valve or oxygen sensor. Might be something simple, but if it's not you'll know what a mechanic should be charging you for. Any import shop will charge a premium just because they think you think that only an import shop can work on your car.

The only Audi dealer in town is JPA - Jaquar, Porsche, Audi - on 8th Ave South. They do a decent job though - took my old Audi there many times without much to complain about.

Default Thanks for the tips

Sorry for the late thank you - not sure why I didn't get email updates about your suggestions. In the meantime I did use a code scanner from Advance which narrowed the issue down somewhat, but couldn't tell me precisely which component was at issue. I'll spare you the cryptic details on those Suffice it to say all the advice I could get on the codes recommended a mass air flow meter. Since I shelled out $600 bucks for that some months ago and the light came on again the next day, I'm being more cautious this time. At least with my code reader, I managed to reset the check engine light and cruise the emissions - and get my first TN license plate! Of course the light came back on the next day. I'll check out Autohaus and avoid IAM, use the dealer as a last resort, and let you know the result. Thanks again!

There was a place in Belle Meade near the Highway 100 and 70 split that did work on most makes of foreign cars. They had a fairly good reputation, I believe. To tell you the truth, I go by there every week and just haven't noticed whether it's still open or not. If you think you might be interested, I'll get you the name of the place.
