My husband and I are going to be moving to Nashville soon. He is from Nashville, but I am from a rural area. This is a big move for me. I'm nervous about safety since there is so much crime there. So I need help deciding which neighborhoods are safe. I have thought about just living in Franklin or Brentwood, but I run into higher rent prices. Help please!

I don't mean to sound confused, but wouldn't your husband have this information? He is from Nashville. I don't believe that there is "so much crime" here. Sure, there's crime, but it doesn't seem as drastic as your statement makes it sound. Where did you obtain this information? I believe Murfreesboro is realtively safe if you use common sense.

I'm from a small town so we don't have near the crime rate as Nashville. I have looked on crime maps on nashville.org. Kinda scary. My husband is from Nashville so I'm sure he knows the safe places. This is mainly for me I guess. I'd just appreciate some help, not criticism.

I did not criticise or mean to sound that way. I was just somewhat confused. Well, do not fear the crime. You have to use regualr common sense like not leaving your doors unlocked or walking alone in a questionable part of town in the dark. If I were you, I would discuss this with your husband, if you have not already. Depending on how long he has lived in Nashville, he may know better than many of us transplants do, myself included.

Nashville does have crime but it is really in certain less desirable areas of town. You might want to consider Bellevue area...rent is very affordable, lower crime and still has a rural feel to it and is close to town and on bus routes. Other options a bit further out of town are Joelton, Springfield, Hendersonville, Nolensville and Thompson's Station. Places I recommend you avoid are Lavergne, Antioch, East Nashville and areas near downtown or universities such as Vandy or Belmont.

Sorry if I was rude or misjudge you Steve. My husband hasn't lived there in a few years.

Avoid areas near Vandy? Are you kidding me? Midtown / West End have some of the most desirable areas. Crime is also low here.

In other words any area where minorities or any young single people live. <sarcasm> Let me suggest an underground bunker complex in Williamson County. Just kidding.

Oh and there are plenty of "desirable" places to live in East Nashville and areas around Vandy and Belmont but it does not sound like this posters cup of tea. I would recomend Bellevue as well.
