Do you have to move right now? Because honestly your budget would make it difficult to get into one of the "better" areas of Nashville (rental market is super tight), and Murfreesboro and Franklin have very light bus service. Those systems don't connect to any regular routes for Nashville's MTA. Basically...you're stuck in Murfreesboro (or Franklin). You would have to bum a ride if you needed to go anywhere outside of town. Those would be some very tough months.

You could find that in Murfreesboro, but you would have to get a job near where that transportation goes. They do have a good school system there.

Agreed, you could easily do less than $750/month in Murfreesboro, but I would invest in a bike for the weekends because neither the Murfreesboro Express (84X)/Original Relax and Ride (96X) buses to Nashville or the Murfreesboro Rover (City Bus) runs and without friends you'd practically be stuck in terms of your location.

The Rover, for what it's worth, gets the job done with getting people around Murfreesboro. It goes everywhere you would possibly need to go, and mostly everywhere you would want to go, but as with all bus systems, you've gotta plan your life around the schedules. Personally having a bike/bus experience here has been great, and it's really helpful in filling the gaps in the system or on the weekends.

All good information, thank you! I'm coming from central Pa where if you're not in the city, there is no bus service. It's also not very pedestrian friendly. unless your in a suburban neighborhood there are no crosswalks, walk lights, or anything, it's horrible.

Consider it to be pretty similar here...except most of the suburbs have no sidewalks or no connecting sidewalks, and sidewalks in the city can be spotty in areas.

Default Nashville/Murfreesboro

I'm a 25yr old about to graduate from Nursing school in Pennsylvania, I am looking for advice on which area will be best for me to move to financially. as an LPN I researched that on average i can make anywhere from $23k to $76k depending on the place i work and what department i work in. Obviously I'll probably start on the lower end of the spectrum which is why for now I am looking for a safe but affordable location. I am not very concerned w/ not being right in the heart of Nashville as I am not moving there for the night life..... So, I am wondering if anyone has any thoughts on Murfreesboro... Is it safe? will it be affordable for me to live there?

You might also look at Bellevue on the west side of Nashville. It's not a long commute from there to "hospital row" along the West End corridor. I'm not sure about now, but a lot of nurses used to live in Bellevue (I was more familiar with it back when I had an apartment rather than a house).

Murfreesboro would be fine, but I don't really see the point of living there if you're not working in Mufreesboro or at least working somewhere from the southeastern side of Nashville to Murfreesboro.

Murfreesboro is large enough to have areas from very nice to areas you might not want to live.
