OK, so having a bit of fun with the post title

What I really want is to get some posters and photos framed.

Does anyone know of a good framer who won't charge an arm and a leg?

Thanks!

- Aaron

Go to one of the craft stores, buy a frame the right size and do it yourself. Any gallery is going to charge an arm and a leg...By my standards anyway.

Michael's has a 60% off custom framing coupon in their sale paper good through tomorrow (Sunday Jan 10). I also saw it printable online, but I'm not sure if I can post it here.

Thanks for the replies, Marilyn and rossc.

I could do it myself, but I don't think it would look as good as if a professional did it.

These are items that I hope to display for a long time, so I guess I wouldn't mind paying for it to be done right.

So, reframing (no pun intended) the question a bit, does anyone know of a good framer period?

Thanks
Aaron

I forgot Michael's did custom work as well. That's where we buy frames.

A word of caution about Michael's...I was roped in by their 60% off deal too and it seemed like there were some conditions that had to be met (it's been 7 or 8 years ago) in order for the coupon to be valid...problem was that they didn't tell me that when I agreed to let them do the work. I really wish I could remember the details...but it seems like I went in there on the day before the coupon ended, presented the coupon, then it took several days for the framing to be done and that was after the expiration date on the coupon and they didn't want to honor the coupon. Something like that. I do recall that I had to get a manager involved and they agreed to the original terms of the coupon but they weren't happy about it.

I'd say that you need to be very explicit about the price and make them give it to you in writing. Same probably goes for any framer.

My dad used to own a small picture framing business, but has since moved on from that. When he needs something framed now he takes it to the Stichin' Post in Nashville and as far as I know, he has always been happy with their work. They are located near 100 Oaks/Berry Hill.

Thanks for the word of warning, DonCorleone.

And thank you for the suggestion, bmrisko. I like to patronize small local businesses when possible and when they do good work. I'll check out the Stichin' Post!
