Hey guys. I always get a lot of great suggestions from everyone, all of which I'm thankful for, so I ask for your help again.

I'm trying to figure out which city to choose. Austin or Nashville. My two biggest life goals are riding motorcycles and becoming a music producer (Hip Hop or Alternative Rock). Here's my criteria...

PRIMARY CRITERIA

- Where I can ride my future motorcycle most often.
- Decent public transportation for when I can't ride a motorcycle.
- Where there's a big music and art influence.
- Scenic
- Lots of things to do related to the arts.
- Not too cold in the winter.

SECONDARY CRITERIA

- More liberal than conservative.
- Lots of great food, preferably BBQ.
- Open, not congested like certain cities.
- Plenty of other young adults.
- Lots of culture.

OTHER LESS IMPORTANT CRITERIA

- Less than average crime rate.
- Jazz and Blues are important.
- Big stop for touring bands.
- Museum(s)
- Orchestra Hall(s)
- Concert Venue(s)
- College(s)
- Decent night life.

Any advice is much appreciated. Any opinion, anything to guide me.

Thanks.

I'd say for the lifestyle you see, Austin is better. If you want to get into "the business", Nashville. I base this on my career as a consultant to the music industry.

We bought another motorcycle after moving here but sold it after nearly getting hit a few times. There seem to be an above average number of MC deaths here. There is some public transportation, but it's nothing like other cities like DC, NY, LA, etc., but then Nashville is a lot smaller. Congestion isn't bad relatively speaking. Politically speaking the area is predominantly conservative.

My sister used to live in Louisville, KY and looked at moving to Nashville long before we did. She was looking for many of the same cultural aspects and didn't care for our conservative ways. She ended up moving back up north.

It sounds like Austin is a better fit, based on the following:

Nashville is more of a country music scene. 2nd Avenue is more about country and rock. Nashville doesn't have anything close to 6th street but it does have pockets stuff here and there.

Nashville doesn't even deserve to say they have public transportation because it's just buses.

Folks in Austin are more likely to be outdoorsy than Nashville. Furthermore, from what I've seen, I have yet to find anything in greater Nashville that I can compare to Lake Travis, etc.

Big music and art influence is really dependent on what type of music and art you are seeking and in what type of environment.

Plenty of young adults can be found in both Nashville and Austin.

I hope this helps!

Of the two, Austin. Have you considered Memphis? It fits lots of your criteria, with the (big) exception of lower than average crime rate.

w/ the criteria listed, i don't see an option better than paradise. i assume you aren't ready for that city yet, so i'll suggest atlanta hands down. austin has a good, but somewhat limited music scene, if you really get into comparisons. austin puts itself out there, pr-wise, so be careful w/ the buzz business and reality. they have to compete on so many levels w/ cities that are right on its own block. the beautiful san antonio, cosmopolitan, urban, world-class houston, and dallas, which really is essentially the same things as houston, just north. best of luck to you on your search.
