I wish they had the flags color coded based on the severity or type of the crime. Of course, severity would have some subjective quality. But, something like monetary crimes = green, misc misdemeanor = blue, vehicular offenses = yellow, DUI = brown, assault and murder = red, would be helpful in sifting through all of that data.
I agree that it should be color coded. They were talking about it on the news the other day, some where saying that it was an invasion of a persons privacy. I feel that it is, especially if it is such a minor offence as fishing with out a licence, etc. And some offences that may not be as minor as fishing with out a licence but not major crimes either, are really none of anyones business, as long as those individualls fulfill the consequences of what that did is all that matters. I personally feel that the only dots on there should be those of violent crimes, or crimes that put others in danger such as rapes, robberies, etc..

Not to diminish anyone else's pain, but I personally consider a DUI a minor offense but can understand how one might disagree under certain circumstances. Regardless, DUIs aren't generally the violent crimes that strike fear into the masses and would prevent someone from moving into a city and/or neighborhood. They occur everywhere from Bordeaux to Brentwood to Bucksnort and probably without a huge disparity between the frequency per capita. My underlying point is that most of these dots simply aren't crimes that should scare the bejesus out of a rational person...or at least not a rational person who chooses to live in a metropolitan area.

Yes, that is true. The letter of the law may not call it a major offense; but it is still a stupid, stupid thing to do. DUI exponentially increases your risk of killing someone. Thus, I consider it a major offense. It is only by the grace of God that someone driving under the influence makes it anywhere without incident.
I do agree with you that this type of crime shouldn't scare most people away from a certain area. That is why I suggested that they should be color coded based on the type of crime.

WTF. One can only assume this guy was higher than a kite.
If one is drunk enough, the only way to navigate is to walk along that double yellow line in the road, wavy as it may be.

Well, I've had a friend killed by a distracted driver (some idiot talking/texting on their cell phone) but I doubt that will show up on the crime charts.

People scream hell over some idiot weaving down an empty street at 3am, but the kind of driving I see by sober people at 5pm everyday makes that look like child's play.
