OK, we are now also looking more closely at West End/Vandy, Belle Meade, Green Hills in addition to Williamson Cty. Can anyone give insight on the schools in the West End area? It seems to be that they are among the best elementary schools. How can such an affluent area (looking at zip codes 37205 & 37209) have horrible schools?? I just don't see how---are the parents not involved?? What about high school?? Do all these people send their kids only to private school? There is no way there are enough slots at all the private schools for the tons of families that live in this part of Davidson Cty.

People that live in that area send their kids to private schools without question. There are some great elementary schools and a few good middle schools, but that is where it drops off. One thing about Davidson and Williamson counties is the fact that they have a ton of private schools, i don't think i could even list them all from memory. There are also some good magnet schools in Nashville, including ones for science, vo-tec, arts, and academics. The acceptance process for these schools is very competitive, but they have the programs and graduation rates to take only the best.
So keep an open mind when looking for places to live in those areas because they are great places to live and raise a family, you will just need to do your research (like it seems that you are doing) when considering schools.

The elementary schools and some middle schools are good in that area, but almost universally everyone in that area sends their children to private school for high school, if not earlier.
I know for the elementary schools (Julia Green and Eakin), the parents are involved, hence why they're good. I can't speak about the middle and high schools though. From what I've also witnessed, some families live in that area when their kids are in elementary school, thus taking advantage of the good schools and then move to Williamson County for middle/high school, thus leaving the families that send their kids to private school for middle & high school or those that started out with their kids in private school.
