DH and I were walking along a riverbank from our campsite years ago, watching a herd of elk in the meadow off to our right. H redirected my attention when he said, "Is that a bear over there in the field ahead?" ...
Not quite.... though I think I would've preferred it!
We saw a pair of young grizzleys tussling at the Columbia zoo in SC (below) and I watched fascinated. They were not being easy with one another, but obviously not in for the kill, either. Getting a close look at their claws and teeth was one thing, but their overpowering strength and massive eminence was terrifying. (It's a great zoo, BTW, if you ever get the chance to go, do it!)
