I am jealous!

The ice is finally breaking up in the bay where I live and I was very pleased to see the return of a pair of loons today.

With any luck, in a few weeks I'll see a wee one riding on his parent's back.

Whooo hoooo! Spotted a pileated woodpecker on a nice dead snag just down the bank from the spring while walking my dog out on our old farm land this afternoon! Since we leave the snags for wildlife unless they're dangerous, we have lots of woodpeckers, including downies, hairies, red headeds, and pileateds. The pileateds are shyer and don't come to the neighbor's feeders, so you have to be lucky to spot them while wandering through the fields/forests.

Saw the first dragonfly of the season earlier today. It's not hot yet, so it was a little surprising to see. I think we're really gonna roast this year.

Was checking my neighbors house and garden while they are away and I noticed this morning a sleeping raccoon under their bay window .I think it noticed me,but lay motionless. That was new for me,always thought they sleep more hidden away under a porch or otherwise.

We see pileated woodpeckers fairly often, but they are amazing to watch. Yesterday afternoon, I saw three in one tree at the same time. I've never seen multiples in a tree. First it was two climbing up the tree and then a third joined them. All flew off within seconds of each other.

Just pulled in my driveway and I saw a lonesome Mallard duck on our front lawn and walking towards our young balsam fir that has low branches. I know we have a small lake a few km away from our home.It is pouring buckets here, maybe it needed to rest

I am sitting here listening to peepers! (Little frogs that, some would say, sing in spring to bring summer.)

I don't think I've ever heard them this loud. My 1st spring in the house. I'm liking it.
