I bobcat crossed a trail approx 15 feet in front of where I was standing in the woods. It didn't see me and it kept walking.

I read that thinking it was about wild turkeys until the word "antlers"!

I've observed a lot of autumn leaves on the ground. Don't know why, but I like it. Even though they look better on the trees.

When I used to live out in the boonies, I'd see quail cross the road in front of me. Once I drove around a corner and there was a covey? of quail just sitting in the middle of the road. I wasn't speeding, but I wasn't crawling along the road, either. I figured they'd fly up and take off, like crows do. I almost ran the %&$% things over with my truck and left a few skid marks. They just flat out weren't going to move. I can't believe people have to hunt them. If they want quail for supper, why not just take a car and run over them? Save some money on ammo.

We had a cougar sighting here (southern MN) Saturday night up on the hill where the School Sisters of Notre Dame do their thing. The paper said they report a sighting there about once a year. And we're in a metro area of about 70,000. Hard to believe.

The juncos are back. They're so soft and round. The cutest little guys.

I was washing some dishes this morning when I noticed a pair of wrens picking around the ferns hanging out front. One landed on the birdbath, which was about half empty. So I filled a jug and went out to pour it into the birdbath.

Well, you'd have thought I was stealing from them! One flew around the corner of the house while the other perched in a bush right next to me, chattering at me for all he was worth! I'm pretty sure he was cursing at me in Wrennish.

Silly things!

About 15 minutes ago I watched a wolf crossing the bay in front of my house. (The bay is frozen.)

Haha! Not used to being watered, I guess.

A few weeks ago, we bought some crusty bread that went hard as a rock after two days. We took the half-loaf and set it on the stump in the front yard. Not long after, we heard a loud THUMP THUNK THUMP on the metal roof, and I got up to see what it was. Just as I opened the front door, the half-loaf dropped onto the porch and two crows flew off in front of me. I guess our generosity wasn't appreciated.

I saw Carolina chickadees at our birdbath. Hadn't seen them around here before.
