Mockingbird landed on a post not five feet from me and looked me up and down several times before flying off. I've never seen a wild bird that close before. So close I could see its eyes. Looked amber to me.
Hundreds of Seagulls got up off the beach and flew out over the water.
We thought that they had seen a school on the surface and were going after it, but it turned out that they were running from an Eagle.
He flew out of the dunes and knocked one of the Seagulls out of the air, but when he went in for the kill, the Gull got away. He hit another one, but it didn't fall.
It's not unusual to see Eagles on this beach, but I always thought they were there for fish, not Seagulls.
I've witnessed 2 separate hawk attacks on my purple martin colony in the last 2 weeks, both unsuccessful. I'm sure there have been more because I found evidence of a kill. There were feathers scattered around the martin house. This morning I saw a hawk fly in and grab a male purple martin right out of the entrance of it's house. I know the hawk probably has a family of it's own to feed but I think I'm going to have to put up predator guards around my housing to keep this from happening.
Well we were working yesterday in our garden and while I was bending down to remove the dead stuff from the flowers Canadian geese were flying above us and one pooped on my bend back..still wondering about the perfect aim..a split second before I was looking above watching them fly with my mouth wide open
