Heard a Gray Catbird singing as the sun went down tonight, first time I've heard them this year. Pic below is from a year or 2 ago.

I did get a couple of pics today.

First was a pic from my phone, yesterday.

I came back with my Nikon and 300mm this morning.

Aww, the chicks are adorable. They seem less-than-excited to have their photo taken. LOL

I love catbirds. And they DO sound like cats. Years ago, we had a genuine cat (a very young kitten) crying in the tall grass next to our house. My husband said, "It's just a catbird". Good thing I didn't listen to him, because that kitten wound up becoming our much-loved pet. But the little guy really did sound like a catbird.

As long as it isn't raining they'll usually be out back at sundown. They start with the cat call, then switch to singing before it gets dark.

I just realized I haven't seen any stray cats around my neighborhood in months. I wonder what has happened to them.

I had one a few years ago that used to keep me company whenever I took a chair into the yard to read. We'd even 'talk' back and forth sometimes.

Catbird, that is...not a kitteh.

The grey treefrogs were LOUD this evening. It sounded like there were dozens of them. What a wonderful sound. My husband and I stood on the back porch, listening to them.

I MIGHT have seen an Eastern Kingbird this morning. Just a glimpse, driving by, but he was sitting atop a half-tree, and had that particular head.

Never saw one before!
