Daddy and Momma Blue Birds are steady feeding their babies. We are hoping to see them when they come out of the house.

Well here's what I didn't see after one sighting: the two beautiful white-breasted nuthatches. I guess they moved on.

I recently moved to a very rural town and have seen turkeys roosting in trees off a field in the back of the house and eastern cottontails on the lawn in groups of four to six in the morning. I grew up on Long Island, NY in the '60's and this is the first time I've seen wild bunnies since then. This means the coyotes haven't established themselves here yet. Walking the grounds I've seen deer and bear scat. Should be good hunting here in the fall.

I had to slow down to go around a buzzard picking at a dead squirrel in the road.

If you tangle with a wild animal, it could go badly.

If that orangutan really wanted to, it could have torn this guy's arms and legs off... she was just playing with him. He had to jump over a metal fence and come right up to her cage before she could get ahold of him; still, he was surprised when she grabbed him.

And a nitwit long before she grabbed him.

New bird today after I put out some new suet (different than another feeder):

Red HEADED woodpecker (as opposed to the Red Bellies that hang around.

Gorgeous bird. Kind of a bully, though.

This one has a solid black wing instead of a speckled one.

I'm feeding Douglas squirrels at home. Well, I'm really feeding birds and the squirrels come as a bonus. What's cute to see is when it's raining out and the squirrels are looking for sunflower seeds, they arch their tails over their backs all the way to their ears like an umbrella to keep the rain off themselves.

I had one squirrel I named Reddy Kilowatt. He chased everything away from the food. So imagine my surprise this morning when I saw a little Douglas squirrel eating practically side by side with two chipmunks. Either the squirrel wasn't Reddy or those chipmunks had a death wish.

I think I saw one or two at my suet feeders some years ago but haven't seen one in a while.

I get Downy's, Red-bellieds and Flickers once in a while, the latter of which are common in my neighborhood but only come to my feeders occasionally.

Would love to get a Pileaded at my feeder someday.
